September Knitting

 

We were off to a very warm start for our first knitting night...

It was so good to see everyone!

 

We featured our Noro Yarns and some great small projects

(would be good for gifting).

 

The Tracey Cowl Neck Warmer, by Angela Juergens, is a quick knit.   It uses an aran weight yarn.  I made this sample using 1.5 balls of Noro Kureyon, but it could be made using Noro Silk Garden as well.  The pattern calls for Noro Taiyo.  Noro Taiyo is a new yarn for us.   It is very soft, as it is made of 40% cotton, 30% silk, 15% nylon and 15% wool.  One 220 yard ball will make this neck warmer.  We have three new color ways of Noro Taiyo.

Noro Silk Garden Lite was used to make the cute wrist warmers, that we have featured previously.  It is a DK yarn made of 45% silk, 45% mohair and 10% wool.  (136 yards)

Jane reminded me that we are meeting this Thursday.....a week earlier than normal, due to Easter.

I'm working on this scarf.

Tari made this striped infinity scarf.   I was so inspired by hers.  Super cute! It's an easy knit.   Looks like we are going to have the weather to wear it still for a bit........  Planning to have it done to show on Thursday.

A reversible apron that is also made using fat quarters.  It is featured on the cover of the Moda book, Sweet Celebrations, along with many other great projects.   This apron, would make such a cute gift.

 

# 9725 Neck Down Cardigan for Women

 

 

If you are new to knitting, or just don't like sewing pieces together, this is the sweater for you.  This sweater is knit from the neck down.  Once you get below the shoulder, sleeve stitches are put on holders while you knit the body of the sweater.  You then go back and knit the sleeves to desired length.  No sewing required.  My sample is made with Cascade 220 yarn (worsted).

January 2013 Moda Club

This year we are going to feature a fat quarter project each month.  This month's project takes 3 fat quarters. 

 

 

Reversable Child's Apron from Moda Bakeshop

 

 

 

For those of you that like rulers, we now have a fat quarter ruler.  It has less markings and is a little easier on the eye for cutting up your stash or fat quarters for projects.  Check out the video here.

 

 

Our Granny Along is continuing.  I'm hoping to get my blocks all put together before the end of this month.  We will have a participation drawing for this project in March.  It's not too late to play along.

 

For 2013, we have invited you to make a spool block.  The fabric for the "spool" and background were given out at the December and January Moda Club.  We will collect them all next month.

Mondo Bag

 

 

Rose has inspired us to make this Quilt Smart bag.  Anyone interested in working on this project can sign up for 2/2/13.  We will meet starting at 9a.m.  This is going to be held more like a retreat than a class.  Group size is limited to 15, so be sure to sign up soon. There is no fee, but your pattern should be purchased at the shop.  I will be contacting those who sign up about supplies etc.

A gift from Jane for Knitters

Jane shared with us cowls made with a "Magic Ball"  The Magic Ball, is put together with different types of yarns you have in your stash. 

2012 Magic Ball Cowl

-----Merry Christmas from Jane Vandenburg

1 magic ball of yarn… (aprox. 140 to 180 yards, mixed fibers -- sock,Dk,worsted) Make your own from your stash. I suggest that the first and last yarns of the ball match and are about 16 yards long. All other yarns - 8 to 12 yards or so in length. I suggest you use the Russian joint instead of knots as you make the ball.

#11 24 inch circular needle (could be a #10½)

Cast on anywhere from 110 to 140 stitches.
(if using the #10½ needle you will want to use 125 to 140 stitches)

Join to knit in the round
, taking care not to twist the ring of stitches. I suggest the knitted cast on as it is stretchier than the long tail. (Optional – You can place a marker to show the beginning of rounds….. but a marker is not really needed.)

Knit about 5 rounds
to make a curling edge to your cowl.

Now just knit
and knit and knit……… ….. if you get tired of the knit stitch throw in some purls….. 50 or 75 or so here or there, every now and then….. and go back to plain knitting. -- Or – You could knit a round, purl a round, repeat -- Or --You could throw in lines of *YO, k2tog, k1* -- Or -- whatever texture you like.

The last yarn in the ball is the same as the first. When you get to this yarn, knit one round (you can use the yarn joint as your beginning of the round marker) and about 25 more stitches. (or -- work until you have just enough yarn for 2 rounds to use for the bind off.)

Now bind off like this—
Knit 2, slip them back to the left needle, knit them together through the back loop (k2togtbl), now repeat…. *K1, sl 2 back to left, k2togtbl* and keep repeating until you have one stitch left. Knot off, weave in the tail….

….. and ENJOY!

I recieved mine as a gift.  It was a surprise as each color/texture of yarn appeared.  I cast on 130 stitches, on an 11"  knitting needle.  I did 4 rows of knit then 4 rows of purl, until I ran out of yarn.

June Moda Club
