Last month, we shared all things Hexi!
Sew much fun!  We started out with a show and tell from you all of your hexi projects.

This month, we are back to some basics...

An accurate quarter inch is so important when piecing.  We also talked about the much controversial pressing of seams!

For the month of February, we will be exploring
the Rail Fence Block.
Be sure to like us on facebook for daily inspiration.

These projects are both charm pack friendly.

Sweet Jane's Third Times a Charm Table Topper

Sweet Jane's Rail Fence Tote

is a wonderful charity quilting organization.
This would be a great quilt to make to donate.
For this quilt you will need 3/8 yard of 4 different fabrics for your rails, 1/4 yard for inner border, and 1/2 yard for outer border.

Just to shake it up a little,
we looked at the Split Rail Fence!
I made this runner using 3 split rail blocks and a 1" inner border.   You will need 1/4 yard of 4 different fabrics.  This should give you enough for at least 3 blocks and your choice of border.  To include binding for this size, would require one of your 4 fabrics to be cut 3/8 of a yard.

Cut 4 strips 2.5" width of fabric, of each of your four fabrics.  Sub cut these to 2.5" x 19".  One set of 2.5x19" strips sewn together should equal 2 rail fence blocks.  Whatever your width of the 4 sewn strips together equals, is the length of your blocks.  (Your quarter inch will make a difference in the size of your completed strip set.)  Sew four different strips together for a strip set.  Press all seams open.

Once you have cut your two blocks, lay one square, right sides together with rails going in opposite directions, on top of the other.
Important step:  Sew all the way around the outside of your square, using 1/4 inch.
Now cut as pictured, corner to corner.

Open and press seams open.

Arrange your 4 new squares to form a split rail block.

 February is National Embroidery Month

Sandy embroidered this happy little snowman for us!  It is part of a pattern by Crabapple Hill.

Snowman A to ZZZZ Block of the Month.

And, just because it was too cute to resist!
